Nitpicky details
The MediaLight Mk2 Bulb is no ordinary bulb.  It does not use a cheap COB light source. It contains 32 individual Colorgrade Mk2 chips (more than the 1m MediaLight Mk2 Eclipse, but with identical spectral power distribution) and, unlike COB lightbulbs, it does not require up to 15 minutes to reach target color temperature. This is what we mean by instant warmup.

The MediaLight Bulb is constructed differently from most bulbs and may operate differently with your existing dimmer. It is optimized for Lutron  LED dimmers because they offer a trim adjustment switch that allows for full and accurate control of dimming range. And the good news is that Lutron dimmers are very reasonably priced. In most cases, other dimmers will be just fine, but you may notice the following issues:
  • Smaller amount of dimming range (Typically 70-90% range vs. 100% with incandescent). It may not go as low or as high.
  • LED Bulbs may not shut off at lowest dim setting: this is caused by the dimmer thinking the bulb is completely off due to the low amount of wattage an LED consumes.
  • On dimming systems based on X10 or Power Line Carrier (PLC) control technology, LEDs may flicker when modules are communicating due to the small fluctuations in power on the line.

It is suggested that you test your current dimmers to see if they work with the MediaLight Bulbs that you have purchased.  Chances are that they will work fine. If not, the problem will be resolved by buying a dimmer listed below:

Also any of the Lutron Caseta dimmers.  As long as there is a low-end trim, it will work without instability or sudden drop-off on the lower settings.

Great performance from a solid product .

I am completely satisfied with the performances of the Mk2 bulbs Ipurchased. Reading and watching Television are much more enjoyable and relaxing. Colors are more vibrant without being over saturated and text is easier to read without eye strain. Highly recommended for aging eyes.

Excellent, but I need more versatility

I’m not taking any stars away as the product does what it says, well. However, maybe a future bulb version would be able to be dimmed without the need for a hardware dimmer, ala the Hue and other bulbs. Would be nice to tie in with an app and/or voice assistants. Also, would be nice to have bi-color option. I know the market this is aimed at doesn’t care about this, but for someone like me who wants to mix this functionality and color accuracy into a normal living environment, it is important. It would be nice to switch to 6500 while editing, then something a bit warmer for everything else, along with the ability to dim from seated position via app and/or voice assistant.

I love these lights!

I got these for when I want a little extra light to complement my Medialight MkII bias lighting. The products are all made well, easy to install, and high quality lighting for a reasonable price - all with fantastic customer service. I’ll be getting more and highly recommend them!
