What Is "FSI Solutions MediaLight"?

Clearing Up Some Common Confusion

We've seen this question come up a few hundred times, in our support queue, in Q&A sections on retail sites, and occasionally in forums, so we wanted to answer it properly.

If you've come across a product listed as "FSI Solutions MediaLight" at B&H Photo or another retailer, here's what you're looking at and why it's labeled that way.

MediaLight Is Made by Scenic Labs

MediaLight bias lighting is designed and sold by Scenic Labs, the company behind biaslighting.com. Our background in display calibration goes back to 2002, and we've been making calibration products since 2009. MediaLight grew directly out of that work, including our ongoing development of the Spears & Munsil Benchmark disc series, still the reference standard for display calibration among enthusiasts and professionals alike. It's a bias light designed by people who actually calibrate displays, built to the standards we use ourselves. Our products are trusted by colorists, editors, ISF-certified calibrators, post facilities, and home cinema enthusiasts worldwide.

Flanders Scientific (FSI) is one of our most valued distribution partners. They're also one of the most respected names in professional reference monitors, which makes them a natural home for an accurate bias light built to work alongside professional displays. When FSI's catalog flows through major retailers like B&H, those retailers typically prefix product names with the distributor's brand. So "FSI Solutions MediaLight Mk2 Eclipse" and "MediaLight Mk2 Eclipse" are the same product. The "FSI Solutions" prefix is simply a retail catalog convention, not a separate brand or a different version of the product.

No confusion intended on anyone's part. That's just how distributor-based retail works, and we're genuinely proud to be part of FSI's lineup.

The Full MediaLight Lineup

FSI and B&H carry a solid selection of MediaLight products, though the complete lineup, including some configurations not available through retail distributors, lives at biaslighting.com:

  • MediaLight Mk2 Flex: Our flagship USB-powered bias light with CRI 98, color-stable dimming, and instant warmup. ISF-certified. Available in lengths covering displays from roughly 20" to well over 100".
  • MediaLight Eclipse: A streamlined USB-powered option at 6500K, well-suited to monitors and mid-size displays.
  • MediaLight Pro2: Professional-grade, with ColorGrade MPro2 SMD chips, CRI 99 Ra, TLCI 99.7, and a flicker-free 30kHz dimmer. Built for demanding color-critical work.
  • LX1 Bias Lighting: CRI 95, 6500K, USB-powered, and priced for home theater budgets without sacrificing accuracy. It's the same simulated D65 standard as our Mk2, with modest spec adjustments that bring the cost down significantly. A good choice if you want reference-quality bias lighting without the Pro2 or Mk2 price tag.
  • Ideal-Lume: A co-branded line of luminaires developed in partnership with CinemaQuest, designed for professional reference monitor applications. Available exclusively through biaslighting.com and select professional channels.

Buying Through FSI/B&H vs. Direct

Both are good options. The product you receive is identical regardless of where you buy it. Same packaging, same contents, same warranty terms. There's no "direct version" or special marking that distinguishes a unit sold through B&H from one shipped by us. If you find it at B&H, buy it at B&H. We're not here to talk you out of that.

For customers who prefer to buy directly from us at biaslighting.com, a few things are worth knowing:

  • Complete selection. Not every length, configuration, or product line makes it into a distributor's catalog. The LX1, Ideal-Lume, and certain bundles are only available here.
  • Fast shipping. We ship directly from our own inventory, typically within one business day.
  • Direct support. Sizing questions, installation help, calibration workflow, display compatibility? You're reaching the people who designed the product.
  • Resources. Spectral reports, sizing guides, and in-depth calibration documentation are available on biaslighting.com and our companion technical site, d65.org.

We also run promotions from time to time that are exclusive to biaslighting.com.
